Steam Reviews

Phantom PHANTOM OF INFERNO NITRO ARCHIVE launched on Steam on 3 September 2026 (Japanese official news used 4 September 2026). This page is the reception brief for that drop, not a patch log and not a substitute for the Steam launch article. As of this writing the Steam review blob is Positive: 11 of 11 user reviews recommend the game, review score 7 on Valve’s scale, 0 negative. That is a launch-week sample. It will move. Confirm the live count on the Steam store page before you quote it in a thread.

NITRO PLUS has not posted a numbered gameplay patch in Steam news at launch. ISteamNews for app 3639590 is empty. Until a build note appears, most “what changed?” questions are still version questions: you bought the 2013 Windows reverse-port of the Xbox 360 remake, wrapped for Windows 11, with official English and Simplified Chinese text. Lineage sits on the updates hub. Specs sit on system requirements.

The video on this page is NITRO PLUS’s official Xbox 360 image movie. It is the remake look Steam still sells, not a 2026 recap of user reviews.

What the first reviews actually say

The early Steam writing clusters around a few repeated points. This wiki paraphrases them; it does not invent a Metacritic average that does not exist yet.

English text is finally on a storefront Western players can buy. For years the readable English options were fan patches, old North American DVD-PG hardware, or watching Funimation’s television dub. Steam’s official English interface and subtitles are the feature a lot of recommend votes are actually celebrating. Voices stay Japanese only. That is not a surprise if you read Nitro Origin’s launch copy. It is a surprise if you assumed a 2026 port would include the TV English dub. It does not. The language matrix is on the launch article.

The game runs. Launch reviews describe a stable Windows 11 install for a voiced adventure, not a 2026 open-world hog. Official specs still name DirectX 11, 8 GB RAM minimum, 16 GB recommended, 4 GB of storage, and a 1920×1080 32-bit desktop target with a variable window. That is enough for the engine. It is not a new renderer.

There is no autosave. Several early reviews call this out immediately. The 2013 reverse-port expects you to write a slot before a choice, the way the How to Play page already tells you to. CG mode and Sound mode exist. Recollection / scene-replay mode does not. If you treat Steam like a 2026 VN with a flowchart and a crash-recovery autosave, you will lose a night. Save first. Keep a chapter password. That complaint is about the port, not about Urobuchi’s script.

4K claims versus the published monitor note. Some store text and some players talk as if the game is a 4K product. The published additional note is a 1920×1080 TrueColor desktop with a variable window. The adventure layout is still a 2013 widescreen ADV. Stretching a window to a 4K monitor is not the same as a new 4K master. Read system requirements before you buy a GPU for this title.

Cal’s bad end is the scene people mention by name. Without dumping the warehouse, launch readers who already knew the series point at Cal Devens as the reason the remake still hurts. If you are new, do not hunt that clip. Play Chapter 2 with saves. The walkthrough will tell you when a Cal flag is about to close.

Wishlist noise for the rest of the catalog. Reviewers and store comments keep asking Nitroplus to follow this SKU with Demonbane, Kikokugai, and Django. That is audience demand, not a dated roadmap on this page. Nitro Origin’s December 2025 Steam remark was that other titles were also planned for the store. This wiki will not invent a second SKU.

Press and first-party notes

English and Japanese game sites covered the date, not a score.

  • Nitro Origin’s news post 000217 is the Japanese first-party announcement: 4 September 2026, ¥3,500, Japanese / English / Simplified Chinese text, Japanese voices, same content as the 2013 reverse-port.
  • Gematsu and Automaton West repeated the Steam date, languages, and the 2013-content warning.
  • Denfaminico Gamer treated 4 September as the Japanese on-sale day and restated that this is Urobuchi’s debut.

None of those pieces are reviews of the Steam build’s writing. They are launch notices. Treat them as date and SKU confirmation. Treat Steam user reviews as a tiny, 100-percent-positive sample that can still flip when more people finish Chapter 3.

The introductory store discount of minus 30 percent is scheduled to end 17 September 2026. That is a price window, not a review bomb clock. Tokyo Game Show 2026 still lists a playable Nitroplus booth in Hall 9, C-55, 17–21 September 2026. Show-floor impressions, if they appear, belong as a later note under this hub rather than as a rewrite of the 2000-to-2013 lineage.

How to read a Positive score on day two

Eleven recommends and zero pans is a good start. It is not a 10,000-review consensus. Visual novels with official English text often score well in the first weekend because the people who waited twenty years for a legal storefront are the people who already loved Inferno. New readers who bounce off the missing autosave, the Japanese-only voices, or the 15+ violence have not all posted yet.

Use the score as a “the port boots and the English text is real” signal. Use this wiki for the things Steam reviews will not list in order: Getting Started for language and saves, the anime vs game page if you arrived from Requiem for the Phantom, characters for the remake roster, and the endings guide when you want title cards instead of a recommend button.

This wiki is unofficial. If Nitroplus ships a patch that adds autosave, recollection, or a new language, that fact belongs on a sibling updates page with a date, not as a rumor in a user-review paraphrase. Until then, the product you are reviewing is the 2013 remake port with a Steam overlay.

FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

Quick answers for new Steam players and returning fans.

What is the Steam review score right now?

Launch-week store data is Positive: 11 of 11 reviews recommend, score 7, 0 negative. Recheck the [Steam store page](https://store.steampowered.com/app/3639590/Phantom_PHANTOM_OF_INFERNO_NITRO_ARCHIVE/) because a sample that small will move.

Is there a numbered patch yet?

No Steam news post and no numbered gameplay patch at launch. Content still matches the 2013 Windows reverse-port. Version history is on the updates hub.

Why do reviews mention missing autosave?

The 2013 remake port has no autosave and no recollection mode. Save before choices. Details are on How to Play.

Is this a 4K remaster?

No. Official notes target a 1920×1080 TrueColor desktop with a variable window. See system requirements.
