Phantom PHANTOM OF INFERNO NITRO ARCHIVE Ein
Inferno's first manufactured assassin, the current Phantom, and the girl who teaches Zwei how to disappear.
Ein is the reason Phantom PHANTOM OF INFERNO NITRO ARCHIVE has a title. Inferno’s rumor mill talks about a ghost who kills executives and leaves no evidence. Inside the organization that ghost is a teenage girl Scythe Master already finished: subject one, codename Ein, job title Phantom. She is apathetic without being theatrical about it. She follows orders, speaks whatever language a job needs, and treats a sniper rifle as the only tool that still makes sense. On Steam she is drawn in the 2009 television style and voiced by Takagaki Ayahi, the same performance as the anime. There is no English dub in this build.

If you are new, read this page next to Zwei. The opening hours are their story, not a dating menu. Ein trains him because Scythe told her to, then keeps training him because a second Phantom is useful, then — if you let the script go there — because the empty space where her feelings should be starts to hurt. Claudia McCunnen will try to pull him sideways. Cal Devens arrives a year later and can become the third number. Mio Fujieda only appears once the pair has already fled. Ein is present in all of those futures, even when she is only a rumor Zwei cannot shake.
Role inside Inferno
Ein is Scythe Master’s proof of concept. He did not recruit a prodigy from a military academy. He found a child, erased whatever life she had, and rebuilt her as a weapon that does not ask why. The German number is the whole biography Inferno bothers to keep: Ein, one. Phantom is the honorific the syndicate gives its best killer, and she holds it when the game starts. That is why the first assassination Zwei witnesses looks supernatural from the street and merely professional from her side of the scope.
She is a sniper first. Close work exists — the sandy knife drills in the Steam hero screenshot are not a one-off — but her value to Inferno is distance, patience, and the ability to leave a scene that police cannot reconstruct. She is multilingual because a manufactured assassin who can only work in one country is a defective product. She is not warm. Early Ein will correct Zwei’s stance and then go silent rather than praise him. The remake’s anime-origin scenes give Takagaki more room to play the tiny leaks in that silence, but the writing still treats her as someone who has to relearn what a preference is.
Scythe remains her maker even after Claudia’s politics cut him out. That relationship is not parental. It is ownership. Whenever Inferno’s executive floor turns, Ein is both prize and evidence. If you want the corporate side of that fight, Claudia’s page covers the F40 and the boardroom. If you want the physical side, stay here: Ein is the body everyone is trying to point at someone else.
Training Zwei
Zwei arrives with no name and a survival instinct Scythe finds interesting. Ein is assigned as instructor because there is no second trainer of her quality. The curriculum is ugly and practical: how to hold a blade, how to wait, how to shoot, how to accept that the person in the other room is already dead. The Steam hero image — Ein pinning him during knife work on sand — is the relationship in one frame. She is not bullying him for sport. She is checking whether subject two will break.
Your first-night choices decide whether that relationship stays professional. Think about her. Call to her after the final test. After the bodyguard job, save her, do not send her away, and stay with her in the motel. That cluster is the Chapter 1 Ein route. Fail it and the same missions still happen, but the camera and the private scenes belong to Claudia instead. The walkthrough lists the clicks. The point on this page is tone: Ein’s Chapter 1 is shorter, colder, and more about two weapons learning to stand in the same shadow.
Even on Claudia’s fork, Ein does not vanish. She is still Phantom. She is still the person who can appear behind Zwei with a rifle he never heard. Chapter 1’s compound confrontation changes depending on who he has been sleeping beside, but Ein is in that compound either as the girl who takes a bullet or as the sniper he might fire on without knowing the silhouette. If you want to keep her alive as a partner rather than a ghost, you have to keep choosing her when the script offers an easier executive.
Voice, design, and the remake
NITRO ARCHIVE is not the 2000 adult PC original and not the DVD-PG / PlayStation 2 recast. It is the 2013 Windows port of the Xbox 360 remake. Ein’s face is the Bee Train television design — silver hair, sharper than the old eroge sprites — and her voice is Takagaki Ayahi. Older Japanese releases used Minami Omi. English-speaking fans who only know Funimation’s television dub are hearing Lindsay Seidel in their heads; that track is not in the Steam client. Play this version with Japanese audio even if you read English subtitles.
The official play movie on this page is NITRO PLUS’s own 360 footage, the second half of their second posted session. It is the same Ein you will see after the Steam title screen: anime wardrobe, Takagaki’s delivery, missions staged like a late-2000s gun show. Use it as a face-and-voice reference, not as a spoiler reel. The Characters Hub collects the rest of the remake cast in one list.
Spoilers: Elen’s identity
Stop here if you have not reached Japan. The rest of this section assumes Chapter 3 names.
When Ein is no longer Inferno’s property, she needs a name that is not a German numeral. The one the script gives her is Elen (エレン). In the remake you may see romanization drift toward Eren because the television series used that spelling; the visual novel’s own line is Elen. In Japan she can pose as Reiji’s sister, Eren Azuma, which is a cover, not a blood tie. The name is a gift from the people who still want her to be a person.
Elen has no usable childhood. Scythe did not leave a file with a hometown on it. Chapter 3’s Ein-leaning path lets Reiji walk that absence with her. They trace traffickers and paperwork until the trail hits a Hong Kong brothel that handled young girls, then Ulan Bator, then nothing that a detective could take to court. A translator tells them to stop hunting a civil registry and go look at the grasslands. Elen recognizes the sky. That is as close to a birthplace as the game will allow. The Steam achievement named Elen is the trophy list’s way of saying the script finally treated her as someone with a private name. This page will not invent a hidden click for it; when the overlay fires, read the description in your language.
Knowing this does not auto-complete her route. You can learn the name Elen and still lose her to Cal’s duel, to Mio’s schoolyard, or to an early Chapter 1 death. Identity and ending are separate flags.
Routes and late titles
Chapter 1 Ein is the training arc and the first chance to treat her as a partner instead of a module. Chapter 2 still belongs to Claudia’s Godoh project and to Cal unless you already burned those flags; Ein returns as a hunter, a rumor, or a person waiting in a desert warehouse. Southbound is the Chapter 2 close where neither of them can pull the trigger and they walk away together because Cal was never fully in the picture. It is a kind ending and it is not Chapter 3.
Chapter 3 is the Japan campaign. To put Ein in contention you generally need her Chapter 1 path and Cal’s Chapter 2 path intact, plus a few identity checks the walkthrough marks. At the last split, looking for Elen rather than completing Mio’s confession leads to Road of the Cerulean Sky, the ending most readers call Ein’s true close: a church, a marriage that is more vow than paperwork, a duel with Cal, Scythe’s last batch of numbered sisters, and that long investigation under a wide sky. Other Ein-adjacent title cards exist, including Transparent on the old 360 list. Use the endings guide for the exact set Steam still tracks.
Ein is not erased if you pick someone else. In Cherry Blossom Avenue she is Reiji’s ally in protecting Mio and still considers Cal the largest remaining threat. In Dusty Desert Trails she can take a fatal wound covering a retreat. Claudia’s hangar endings treat her as data Scythe already harvested — the Zahlen Schwestern are copies grown from Ein’s file. If you care about her, you are not only picking her confession. You are deciding whether her personhood survives other people’s plots.
Steam achievements with her names
Steam’s 34-achievement list includes character entries named Ein, Phantom, and Elen. The 360 remake used the same idea in Japanese (アイン, ファントム, エレン). Treat those names as confirmation that the script has spent time on her role, her title, or her private name. Do not assume a secret extra scene is required; this wiki does not document undocumented unlocks. If you are hunting every overlay icon, finish her route flags through the endings guide and let the client award what it awards.

Frequently Asked Questions
Quick answers for new Steam players and returning fans.
Who voices Ein in the Steam version?
Takagaki Ayahi, reprising the 2009 television role. The Steam build has Japanese voices only. Older PC / DVD-PG releases used Minami Omi.
What does the name Phantom mean?
Phantom is Inferno's title for its best assassin, not Ein's birth name. She holds it at the start because she is already Scythe Master's finished product. Steam also lists an achievement named Phantom; read the overlay for the official wording.
How do I stay on Ein's Chapter 1 route?
Think about her on the first night, call to her after the final test, save her after the bodyguard job, and stay with her instead of planning a return to Inferno under Claudia. The walkthrough has the full click list.
Who is Elen?
Elen is the personal name Ein uses once she is no longer only a numeral. Chapter 3 investigates where that person came from. The heading on this page marks the spoiler. Steam includes an achievement named Elen.
Which ending is Ein's true close?
Road of the Cerulean Sky is the Chapter 3 ending most readers treat as hers. Southbound is a kinder Chapter 2 exit if Cal's flags are incomplete. See the endings guide for flags and related title cards.
