Phantom PHANTOM OF INFERNO NITRO ARCHIVE Zwei

A kidnapped tourist, a memory-wiped apprentice, and the player character whose choices decide which name he keeps.

Zwei

You do not pick Zwei from a roster. In Phantom PHANTOM OF INFERNO NITRO ARCHIVE you are the Japanese teenager Inferno kidnaps, drugs, and renames. Before that room he is Reiji Azuma (吾妻玲二), a tourist who saw a reporter die and then ran well enough that Scythe Master decided the panic was talent. After the wipe he is Zwei: German for two, the second manufactured assassin, assigned to Ein until he can kill without asking for his old life back. The Steam remake — the 2013 Windows port of the Xbox 360 game — presents him with the 2009 television face and Irino Miyu’s voice. Audio is Japanese only.

Zwei, the second Phantom, in the Steam remake's standing portrait

This page is the protagonist guide: how he is taken, how the training sticks, how Claudia hands him his real name, and how later chapters can turn him into a partner, a runaway, a crime boss, or a corpse. For the people who pull him, keep Ein, Claudia McCunnen, and Cal Devens open in another tab. For the actual branches, use the walkthrough.

Kidnapping

The public story Inferno sells is simple. Mafia officers are dying. Witnesses talk about a phantom. Reiji is in the United States on a trip that should have been souvenir photos. He walks into an assassination, sees that the shooter is a girl about his age, and runs. He lasts longer than a tourist is supposed to last. That delay is the whole recruitment pitch. Scythe would rather convert a witness with instincts than dump a body that already proved it can hide.

The wipe is not a single cutscene. Drugs, hypnosis, and repetition take his yesterday. Inferno does not bother with a fake passport in his real name. They give him a number and a cot and a trainer. If he refuses the work, he dies. The visual novel does not pretend this is a heroic enlistment. The first hours are about whether subject two will vomit, freeze, or copy Ein’s breathing.

Steam’s achievement list includes an entry named Zwei. It is the game’s way of acknowledging that the numeral stuck. There is also an achievement named Reiji for the moment the past comes back. This page will not invent a hidden extra trigger for either; when the overlay appears, trust the official description.

Training and the name Zwei

Ein is the curriculum. Knife drills on sand, live weapons, waiting in a hide until a target walks into a window. The Steam screenshot of Claudia holding him is a later, softer image; the opening relationship is Ein’s weight on his shoulders and a blade that will not wait for him to feel ready. Zwei learns because the alternative is execution, then because competence is the only remaining identity, then because someone in the room — Ein, Claudia, or later Cal — makes survival look like a promise.

Zwei means he is not first. Ein already holds Phantom. Scythe talks about him as an iteration, a chance to improve the line. That framing matters when you make choices. If you play him as a student who wants Ein’s approval, Chapter 1 stays in motels and crosshairs. If you play him as someone hungry for the executive floor, Claudia’s F40 and her bodyguard job start to look like a career. The missions overlap. The interior monologue does not.

He is still a teenager. The remake does not turn him into a joke about that, but it also does not make him a seasoned operator on day one. Irino Miyu’s performance is the tell: panic leaking through professional lines, then professional lines leaking through panic. You are listening to someone being built in real time.

Remembering Reiji Azuma

Claudia is the one who can give him his name back. She has files, leverage, and a reason to make Zwei feel like a person she chose rather than a product Scythe owns. Learning that he is Reiji Azuma does not automatically restore a moral code. It gives him a handle. Some routes use that handle to call home in his head. Some use it to become a more efficient Phantom because a man with a past still has to live through the next gunfight.

When Chapter 3 moves the story to Japan, he puts Reiji back on like a school uniform. Classmates see a transfer student. Mio Fujieda sees a boy she can confess to. Ein, if she is there, may wear a sister cover. Inferno does not care which name is on the attendance sheet. The Godoh family and Scythe’s numbered sisters will still find the assassin underneath. The tension of the Japan chapter is that Reiji wants the classroom to be real while every surviving plot from America treats it as camouflage.

If you skip Claudia’s intimacy flags you can still learn who he was; the executive is not the only source of the truth, but she is the fastest. The Reiji achievement on Steam is tied to recovering that past, not to marrying anyone. Keep the two ideas separate when you plan a run.

Choices that change him

Phantom is not a game where one heroine lock paints the rest of the week a new color. Chapters overlap. A kind answer to Cal can still sit on top of a Chapter 1 Ein run. A night with Claudia can still leave Ein bleeding at the compound. The walkthrough is strict because the personality shifts are strict.

Play him loyal to Ein and he becomes the rare person who talks to a blank assassin as if she might want something. That version of Zwei is quiet, stubborn, and willing to hide in a desert warehouse rather than climb Inferno’s ladder. Play him loyal to Claudia and he learns driving, politics, and the habit of surviving at all costs — the same habit that can put a bullet in her at the hangar years later. Play him loyal to Cal and he is the adult who failed to keep a slum girl out of the machine, then spends Chapter 3 trying to pay that debt with his own chest. Play him loyal to Mio and he is a killer trying to leave a civilian a future, even if that means threatening the Godoh patriarch on her behalf.

He can also become the thing Scythe wanted: a Phantom who commands the Zahlen Schwestern because he once learned how to speak to Ein. From Atop the Hill is that man, five years on, visiting a grave on a hill. The endings guide will tell you which hangar choice creates him. This page is only here to say the protagonist is not a fixed hero. The same kidnapping can produce a husband under a Mongolian sky or a crime lord who out-Scythes Scythe.

Bad exits are part of the portrait. The Endless Nightmare sends him home to Japan early, unsure whether Ein in a crowd is real. Other Chapter 2 closes leave him waiting to be shot in a warehouse, or storming Inferno until the bullets add up. Those are not failed saves. They are answers to the question the title asks: what remains of a boy after Inferno is done naming him.

Voice, screenshot, and how to read him

Irino Miyu is the 360 / Steam / television Zwei. DVD-PG and PlayStation 2 used Okano Kousuke. The OVA used Sakurai Takahiro. If you came from Funimation, Newton Pittman is the English television voice, and he is not in this client. Keep Japanese audio on.

The hero image on this page is the remake’s tender beat of Claudia holding him — a reminder that the protagonist is still small enough to be held, even after the wipe. The official play movie is NITRO PLUS’s first posted 360 session, second half: early missions, Irino’s delivery, the same gun-and-conspiracy staging Steam uses. Watch it for posture and wardrobe. Use the Characters Hub when you need the rest of the Inferno name list.

Steam also lists an achievement named Phantom. On some paths Zwei inherits that title. Do not assume every Phantom pop means Ein lost it, and do not assume a secret combat minigame is hiding behind the icon. Finish the story flags you care about and let the 34-achievement list mark the names you actually met.

When you are done with biography, the next mechanical read is the walkthrough for Chapter 1’s first night, then Ein or Claudia depending on who you thought about when the lights went out.

FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

Quick answers for new Steam players and returning fans.

Who is Zwei before Inferno kidnaps him?

Reiji Azuma, a Japanese tourist in the United States. He sees an Inferno hit, runs, and is captured because that run looked like talent. Steam tracks an achievement named Reiji when the past returns.

Who voices Zwei on Steam?

Irino Miyu, the 2009 anime cast. The Steam port has Japanese voices only. Older home-console and DVD-PG releases used different actors.

Does remembering his name change the route automatically?

No. Reiji is information and a handle, not a heroine lock. You can know your name and still finish beside Ein, Claudia, Cal, or Mio.

Which early choices matter most?

The first night (Ein versus drifting toward Claudia), whether you learn to drive the F40, and whether you save Ein after the bodyguard job. The walkthrough lists later Cal flags that are just as strict.

Can Zwei become Phantom?

Yes, on some late paths he takes or shares the title Inferno gives its best killer. Steam includes an achievement named Phantom. Read the overlay instead of assuming a hidden extra fight.

Is this a single-player story?

Yes. Phantom PHANTOM OF INFERNO NITRO ARCHIVE is a single-player visual novel. There is no second protagonist to invite. Your choices only rewrite this one kidnapped tourist.
