Phantom PHANTOM OF INFERNO NITRO ARCHIVE Chapter Walkthrough
Ein, Claudia, and Cal flags for the Steam NITRO ARCHIVE build, with save slots that actually survive a reload.
This page is a spoiler-aware chapter walkthrough for Phantom PHANTOM OF INFERNO NITRO ARCHIVE on Steam. The game is a single-player visual novel: the 2013 Windows port of the 2012 Xbox 360 remake, with Bee Train character designs, Japanese voices only, and English or Japanese text. It is a single-player ADV and it is not the 2000 adult PC original.
If you have not finished the first night, start with Getting Started and How to Play, then play until Zwei is asked what to think about. Return here when you want Ein versus Claudia on purpose. Named outcomes live on the endings catalog. First-play versus noir rankings live on the Routes Hub.
Spoiler policy. Choice lists name buttons, not plot. Ending titles and climax paragraphs are labeled. Skip those blocks if you want the story cold.
Saves, skip, and chapter passwords
Steam uses real save slots plus a system save for read text, galleries, and achievements. That is the difference that matters versus the 2002 DVD-PG, which replaced saves with skip codes.
Older English FAQs still quote a Chapter 3 password such as OCTELDMF. That DVD code jumps to the last act without Ein or Cal flags. Do not type it on Steam expecting Road of the Cerulean Sky. If credits still print a password fragment, treat it as a leftover extra bookmark (the DVD gallery string was UDG42VDA after four fragments). Gallery progress on this port is tied to the system save, not to a DVD keypad.
Skip already-read narration. Never skip an unread choice. Auto-forward will eat Cal’s one-shot flags.
Keep these slots
- First night, before thinking about Ein or your captors.
- After the bodyguard job, before Save Ein versus escape alone.
- After do not let Ein go, before Console her.
- Chapter 2, Cal in the street, before Answer her.
- After shopping with Cal, before Claudia’s house versus staying with Cal.
- After identifying the harbor attackers, before Hide versus Kill everyone.
- Chapter 3 church, before Stay, seek solitude, or search for Mio.
- After Mio’s confession, before Look for Elen versus Look for Cal.
- Claudia hangar: after Lizzie draws, then again before Shoot Claudia versus Accept fate.
Keep slot 1 forever. A finished Ein file cannot become a clean Claudia Chapter 1 without New Game.
When to branch
Chapter 1 is Zwei in training under Ein, with Claudia recruiting from the other side. Chapter 2 is Los Angeles about a year later: Cal appears, and Claudia’s Inferno plot continues. Chapter 3 is Japan, Mio, and the three character true endings.
First play (full story). Follow Ein’s Chapter 1 flags, Cal’s Chapter 2 flags, identify the sniper and the harbor attackers, then Hide after the loft bombing. That package is the only door into Chapter 3. At the finale, pick Elen, Cal, or Mio.
Short Ein ending. Same Ein Chapter 1, but do not fully finish Cal. Still identify sniper and harbor. You get Southbound instead of Japan.
Noir Claudia. New Game. Captors on night one, F40 drive, return to Inferno. Ignore or drop Cal, finish Claudia through the hangar.
Completionist. One Ein-plus-Cal backbone with the saves above yields The Endless Nightmare, Vengeful Spirits, Southbound, and all three Chapter 3 endings. A failed-Ein slot plus full Cal plus Hide is Fugitives. A second file covers The End of a Long Dream, From Atop the Hill, and The Woman in the High Castle. From Atop the Hill has a Cal variant if you romance her and still finish Claudia.
Chapter 1
Night one is the first real flag. Thinking about Ein starts her route. Thinking about your captors starts Claudia’s.
Ein flags (required for Chapter 3)
- First night: think about Ein.
- When she returns late from a job, call out, then ask about her day. You can hesitate once and still talk. If you stay silent from the start, there is no second chance.
- When Scythe hands you the first assignment, reason with Ein, not Claudia.
- Decline Claudia’s F40 invitation if you are protecting Ein flags. The drive is Claudia’s romance gate.
- After the bodyguard job, save Ein. Escape alone is The Endless Nightmare.
- When she tries to leave, do not let her go. Letting her go is also The Endless Nightmare.
- In the motel, console her. Remaining quiet fails Ein’s route even if you fled together.
Spoiler (Ein Chapter 1 climax). At the compound, Reiji fires at Scythe. Ein takes the bullet. Scythe escapes. Ein is presumed dead heading into Chapter 2.
Knife versus another gun in training is flavor and CG, not a Chapter 3 flag. The 2013 remake also lets you pick firearms for encyclopedia text. Those picks do not replace the list above.
Claudia flags
- First night: think about your captors.
- After the talk, call her back as she leaves.
- Before the final exam, plead with Claudia.
- Accept the F40 drive, persevere, and accept her invitation afterward.
- Still save Ein, then plan to return to Inferno instead of running.
Spoiler (Claudia Chapter 1 climax). A sniper duel ends with Reiji shooting Ein, who had him dead to rights and did not fire. Scythe shoots Reiji. Lizzie extracts him. Scythe still escapes.
You can save Ein on a Claudia file. Returning to Inferno is what separates Claudia’s Chapter 1 from Ein’s flight north.
Chapter 1 ending
The only Chapter 1 ending is The Endless Nightmare: fail the commit and go home to Japan. Trigger it by escaping alone after the bodyguard job, or by following Ein then letting her go. If you did not take that ending, Chapter 2 starts about a year later.
Chapter 2
Whose Chapter 1 you finished changes who is alive, who is loyal, and whether Cal can attach. Cal’s route is the strictest map in the game.
Cal flags (required for Chapter 3)
Published guides agree: one refusal often treats Cal as if you never met her.
- When the homeless girl asks what you plan to do, answer her.
- At the restaurant, talk a little longer.
- Go shopping with her. Sending her alone deletes her from later scenes.
- Agree with her on vengeance.
- Accept her confession. Refusing it can still leave her on-screen, but it blocks Southbound and can dump you into a warehouse dead end where Ein kills you.
If you completed Claudia in Chapter 1 and also started Cal, the game forces a split: go to Claudia’s house (Claudia Chapter 2) or stay with Cal.
Claudia Chapter 2
- After drinks with Lizzie (or after shopping, if you still visit), go to Claudia’s place.
- When you walk in on Claudia and Godoh, stop them. Watching in silence ends the relationship.
- Confirm the sniper if you still want later flags.
- When Lizzie draws, shoot Lizzie to reach the hangar. Waiting here is the Ein and Cal continuation, not the Claudia pair.
Hangar: Shoot Claudia is From Atop the Hill. Accept fate is The Woman in the High Castle.
Sniper, harbor, loft
These three checks sit on the Ein and Cal spine:
- Counter-snipe: confirm the sniper’s identity. Shooting blind fails the Chapter 3 package.
- Los Angeles Harbor: confirm the identity of the attackers. Escaping here can force Southbound-style exits.
- After the loft is bombed: Hide if you want Chapter 3 or Fugitives. Kill everyone is Vengeful Spirits.
Spoiler (loft). Cal was not in the apartment. Kill everyone sends Reiji on a suicide raid while she waits. Hide with a failed Ein Chapter 1 is Fugitives. Hide with Ein Chapter 1 complete, Cal complete, sniper ID, and harbor ID is Chapter 3: Ein meets you at the warehouse, you run to Japan, and Cal believes you lied.
If you finished Ein Chapter 1, skipped a full Cal romance, but still identified sniper and harbor, Southbound fires: Ein’s shorter happy ending, south instead of Japan.
Spoiler (Southbound versus Chapter 3). Both scenes use the desert warehouse. Southbound has no Cal debt. Chapter 3 keeps Cal alive as Drei.
Chapter 3
Unlock is not a menu. It is a flag AND:
- Ein Chapter 1 complete, including console her.
- Cal Chapter 2 complete.
- Identify the sniper.
- Identify the harbor attackers.
- Hide after the loft bombing.
If the church only offers two choices instead of three, a flag is missing. Reload. Do not grind a broken file.
Mio, Elen, Cal
At the church:
- Stay or search for Mio, then accept her confession, tell her about Cal, and take the Mio-specific prompt to lock Cherry Blossom Avenue.
- Leave Mio’s route at any point (decline confession, do not tell her, or leave it to me) and the finale becomes Look for Elen versus Look for Cal.
Look for Elen is Road of the Cerulean Sky, Ein’s true ending. Look for Cal (Drei) is Dusty Desert Trails, Cal’s true ending.
Phantom Integration added a Chapter 3 fail if you fully romanced Cal in Chapter 2 and then hesitate in the church duel while chasing Elen. The 2012 Xbox 360 remake and this 2013 PC port track a related moonlit-sky variant. Do not freeze on Cal if you want Cerulean Sky.
After you finish a file
Tick names on the endings catalog, then use the Routes Hub to decide romance versus noir next. Character pages cover Ein, Zwei, Claudia, Cal, and Mio. Menus, skip, and first-hour settings stay on Getting Started and How to Play.
Frequently Asked Questions
Quick answers for new Steam players and returning fans.
Can I reach Chapter 3 on a Claudia Chapter 1 file?
No. Chapter 3 needs Ein's Chapter 1 complete, including consoling her, plus Cal's Chapter 2, sniper ID, harbor ID, and Hide. Start a New Game for Ein if your only file returned to Inferno.
Why did Cal disappear after one scene?
Her route is strict. Ignore her, cut the restaurant talk, or send her shopping alone and the game treats her as never met. Accept the confession if you want Southbound or Chapter 3.
Do old DVD chapter passwords work on Steam?
Do not rely on them. NITRO ARCHIVE is the 2013 PC port of the Xbox 360 remake and uses save slots. DVD skip codes such as OCTELDMF do not carry Ein or Cal flags.
Where should I save on a first playthrough?
Night one, after the bodyguard job, after shopping with Cal, after the harbor ID, and at the Chapter 3 church. The numbered slot list on this page is the full set.
Is there a combat or multiplayer walkthrough?
No. This is a single-player visual novel. Firearm picks in the 2013 remake fill encyclopedia text. Story flags are the dialogue choices on this page.
Which route should I play first?
Ein Chapter 1 into Cal Chapter 2 into Chapter 3, then Claudia on a second file. Rankings for payoff versus efficiency are on the Routes Hub.
