Phantom PHANTOM OF INFERNO NITRO ARCHIVE Scythe Master
The scientist who numbers people, treats a stage as a lab, and throws finished Phantoms away.
Scythe Master is the reason Phantom PHANTOM OF INFERNO NITRO ARCHIVE has numbered assassins instead of recruited ones. Inferno’s public rumor is a ghost who leaves no evidence. Inside the syndicate that ghost is a product line, and the man who runs the line was born Helmut von Giuseppe. He is a German researcher who took a doctorate in psychology and brain development into the black market, put on a theatrical alias, and started manufacturing people who would not ask why. On Steam he uses the 2009 television design — tall, glasses, lab coat — and Chiba Isshin’s voice, the same pairing as the anime. Japanese audio only.

You do not play as him. You play as the tourist he wipes into Zwei. You are trained by Ein, the first subject he already finished. You may later watch Cal Devens become Drei, subject three. Claudia McCunnen is the executive who has to work with him and would rather not. This page is the maker’s file: what the remake actually shows, which names Steam tracks, and why every route still collides with his lab even when you are trying to leave Inferno.
Scientist, not Phantom
Scythe does not hold the Phantom title. He does not need a rifle. The 360 remake and the Steam port both treat him as a non-combatant with delusions of grandeur: the world is a stage, he is the puppet master, and Ein is a tool he oils the way other men clean a gun. Older Japanese releases used Ken Narita. The 2004 OVA used Kazuhiro Nakata. The television series and this remake use Chiba Isshin. Funimation’s TV English track used Kent Williams; that recording is not in the Steam client. Play this version with Japanese audio even if you read English subtitles.
The Steam screenshot of him on a phone in a moving car, Ein in the back seat, is the relationship in one frame. He is already talking to someone more important than the girl he built. She is cargo. Lizzie Garland will later point a gun at problems Scythe created; she is still a field operator. He is still the man who thinks a correctly drugged teenager is better raw material than a volunteer.
Inferno’s executive floor does not love him. Claudia treats him as a subordinate she would like to outgrow. Raymond McGuire is the quiet center other officers obey. Isaac Wisemel would rather solve problems with the Bloodies than with a German lecture. Scythe plays along until the board no longer needs him, then he recycles. That recycling is the plot of more than one late title card. The endings guide names those cards. This page names the inventor.
Ein, Zwei, Drei
The German numerals are the biography Inferno bothers to keep.
Ein is subject one, already Phantom when the story opens, a sniper with no usable childhood. Scythe did not leave a hometown in her file. Chapter 3 can send Reiji looking for Elen; the trail still hits Scythe’s work before it hits a grassland. Steam lists achievements named Ein, Phantom, and Elen. Those names confirm the script spent time on the product, the title, and the private name. They do not prove you fought Scythe in a secret extra scene.
Zwei is subject two: Reiji Azuma, snatched after he sees the wrong murder, memory-wiped so a mission will not be slowed by a passport. Scythe finds the survival instinct interesting. Ein is assigned as instructor because there is no second trainer of her quality. Your first-night choices decide whether Zwei stays a second module or becomes someone who might walk away. Scythe does not care which, until walking away makes the product defective.
Drei is subject three. In the remake that number is Cal Devens if Chapter 2’s flags stay intact. Steam also lists an achievement named Drei. The portrait of Drei in the official art is the same Cal the television series already showed in Inferno black — a third Phantom built because the first two stopped being obedient. If your file never built her, the number still hangs over Chapter 3 as a threat other routes remember.

Around those three sit the Zahlen Schwestern: numbered sisters grown from Ein’s data when Scythe needs a batch instead of a masterpiece. Claudia’s hangar endings still run on that harvest. You do not need a separate wiki page for every copy. You need to know that Scythe’s answer to losing a Phantom is to print another one.
Voice, design, and the remake
NITRO ARCHIVE is not the 2000 adult PC original. It is the 2013 Windows port of the Xbox 360 remake. Scythe’s glasses are a television-era addition the original sprites did not always share. The theatrical manner is older than the glasses. The official play movie on this page is NITRO PLUS’s third posted 360 session, second half: conspiracy talk, executive rooms, the tone Steam still uses when the scientist is in frame. Use it as a face-and-voice reference. Choice lists live in the walkthrough.
Steam’s 34-achievement list does not need a trophy named Scythe for him to matter. Named entries for Ein, Zwei, Drei, Phantom, Reiji, Elen, Cal, Claudia, Mio, and Lizzie all fire in stories he started. This wiki does not invent a hidden unlock for a lab visit. When an overlay pops, read the description in your language.
Spoilers: what he wants late
Stop here if you have not finished Chapter 2.
Scythe’s late-game motive is not a change of heart. It is ownership. If Inferno’s board cuts him out, he does not retire. He takes the data he already has — Ein’s file, the process that made Zwei, the option to finish Cal — and he builds a private army that does not report to Claudia. The Zahlen Schwestern are that army. Several Chapter 3 closes require you to deal with that batch, or to live with the fact that someone else already did.
He is a poor final duelist. The remake still lets Ein, or a Zwei who learned from her, end him because he throws away his own weapon rather than become the thing he manufactures. That is the point of the character, not a hidden QTE. If you came from the 2009 television series, you already know the silhouette. The visual novel still makes you earn the flag set that puts you in the room. Miss Cal, miss Ein, miss Claudia’s hangar, and you may only hear about him.

Frequently Asked Questions
Quick answers for new Steam players and returning fans.
Who voices Scythe Master on Steam?
Chiba Isshin, the 2009 television actor. Steam has Japanese voices only. Older PC releases used Ken Narita. The 2004 OVA used Kazuhiro Nakata.
What is Scythe Master's real name?
Helmut von Giuseppe. Scythe Master is the black-market alias. Inferno files still treat the German numerals as the biography that matters.
Did he create Ein, Zwei, and Drei?
Yes. Ein is subject one, Zwei is subject two, and Cal can become Drei if Chapter 2 flags survive. The Zahlen Schwestern are later copies grown from Ein's data.
Is Scythe a Phantom?
No. Phantom is Inferno's title for its best assassin. Scythe manufactures those assassins. He does not hold the title himself.
Does Steam have an achievement named Scythe?
The 34-achievement list is built around character and ending names such as Ein, Drei, and Phantom. This wiki does not invent a hidden Scythe trophy. Confirm overlays in your client.
Where do I go after this page?
Read Ein and Zwei for the products, Cal for Drei, and the walkthrough when a lab scene is about to close a door.
